BUILDING VIRTUAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS ACROSS CULTURES
In today’s multinational workplace, people at all levels of an organization and from time zones around the globe are being asked to conduct meetings, meet project deadlines and solve complex problems, all through virtual communication, sometimes without ever meeting international colleagues. Rather than minimizing cultural challenges, working virtually may require even greater attention to establishing relationships, trust, and work expectations than face-to-face interactions.
In this session, regional experts on the panel from Asia, Europe and Latin America (tbd) will address how to build effective work relationships across cultures in a virtual work environment. Topics will include:
Names & Titles
Communication styles
Listening for “yes” and “no”
Building relationships through email
Do we speak with the same English? 1st and 2nd language issues
Preparing for and conducting virtual meetings across cultures
After the panel has explored the topics from the viewpoint of their region of expertise, HRMAC IIG attendees will choose one of the three/four region-specific break-out groups to participate in an exercise and gain more in-depth knowledge about doing business virtually in their region of choice.
*Region options may include: Southeast Asia, Middle East, Latin America, West Africa, and Northern Europe
