This program will focus on the value and strategy of University and Corporate Partnerships.  A panel of HR leaders will highlight how to effectively drive relationships with Universities and build your campus brand.  The session will also focus on how to effectively create and drive an internship program, converting university talent into future full time hires.  You will gain knowledge of:

University relationships & your campus brand
  • Developing relationships with colleges and universities to provide strategic benefits. Examples include identify  future employees, employee training/executive education, new technologies, etc.
  • Creating a reciprocal relationship to help schools develop cutting edge curriculum
  • Selecting and teaming up with targeted universities
  • Partnering with a university and the Importance and role of a corporate executive sponsor
Internship Programs
  • Effectively creating and managing an internship program
  • Advancing your program so that the organization is sought after by college students
  • Creating the intern experience, ensuring that deliverables are achieved and met by the intern, and value is recognized by the organization
  • Engaging interns beyond the internship experience and converting desired relationships into future hires

Courtney Jorgensen, Director of Recruitment, Marketing & Sourcing, CNA Insurance

Courtney Jorgensen is currently the Director of Recruitment Marketing and Sourcing for CNA Insurance responsible for employment branding, sourcing strategy and portfolio management, campus, internship and diversity talent attraction programs.  Previously Courtney was the Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition for U.S. Cellular® where she was responsible for the talent acquisition strategy development delivery for the field sales and customer service organization.  Courtney has consulted on multiple enterprise-wide programs for organizational effectiveness, design and change management with human capital impacts and has fueled her entrepreneurial spirit as an Executive Search Consultant for a boutique retained search firm. Courtney has provided thought leadership speaking at conferences on recruitment industry topics such as mobile, talent communities and analytics.  She holds a MBA from University of Phoenix with a specialization in e-business, BA from University of Iowa and the Senior Professional in Human Resources certification (SPHR). 
Courtney has completed her Master Human Capital Strategist certification through the Human Capital Institute and has written a whitepaper on “Building Pipelines at the Executive Level”. Courtney sits on the board for Education to Careers in an effort to bridge the gap between education and the workforce through programs focused on skill development for greater preparedness for the future workplace. A current member of Human Resource Management Association of Chicago (HRMAC) and Society of Talent Acquisition and Recruitment (STAR), she has also been actively involved in Junior Achievement, Enactus and special interest groups related to HR and Recruiting.  

Mark Presnell, PhD, Executive Director, Northwestern Career Advance, Northwestern University

Mark possesses over 20 years of experience in career services including his current role as Executive Director of Northwestern Career Advancement (NCA).  Prior to Northwestern, Mark has worked at Johns Hopkins University, The University of Rochester, The University of Virginia School of Architecture, and The University of Kansas.  He received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas.  Currently, Mark supervises a staff of 22 individuals who implement a broad range of career services to undergraduate and graduate students.  Through school-based counseling and advising, NCA focuses on providing personalized career services across students’ four years at Northwestern.  Additionally, NCA proactively develops robust partnerships with employers, parents, and alumni to educate and recruit Northwestern students.

Carrie McAteer,  Director, University Internship Program, DePaul University 

Carrie McAteer manages the University Internship Program at DePaul University where she has worked for over 14 years.  She has a BA in communications from the University of Dayton and an MS in public service administration from DePaul University.
She works closely with local businesses and nonprofit organizations that are interested in hiring DePaul interns and educates employers on internship best practices including the Department of Labor criteria for unpaid internships and the value of paying interns. 
Carrie is serving her 10th year as a board member for the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce.  In this role, she is able to help elevate DePaul’s presence within the business community, build new employer partnerships and connect students to organizations for internships and full-time employment.  She also sits on the boards for several nonprofit organizations in the Chicagoland area and is a member of the City Club of Chicago.

Dee Torres Sr. Manager, Talent Acquisition, Exelon Corporation

Dee Torres is based out of the Chicago Headquarters of Exelon Corporation, the leading U.S. competitive energy provider, with one of the cleanest and lowest-cost power generation fleets and largest retail customer bases in the country.  The Exelon family of companies participates in every stage of the energy business, from generation to power sales to transmission and delivery.  In her role as Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition, Dee is responsible for providing governance and oversight of enterprise-wide recruiting programs (e.g., military, disability, and diversity partnerships), pipeline recruitment (e.g., early outreach, university/tech school relations, and internship program), recruiting policies, fundamentals and system usage.  Prior to joining Exelon in 2008, she spent nine years in the aviation industry in Recruiting, HR, and Sales roles.  She received her B.A. degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. 

Loren Opfer Finance and Accounting Leadership Development Program Manager, Navistar

Loren Opfer is the current Finance and Accounting Leadership Development Program Manager and Finance Training Manager at Navistar, Inc., a Fortune 500 company located in Lisle, IL. Previously, Loren worked in higher education at both Career Education Corporation and DePaul University in career counseling working with students of all ages and backgrounds. Loren’s career started as a counselor where she obtained her BS in psychology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and her Masters in clinical psychology from Argosy University Chicago. Loren is a LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), PHR (Professional in Human Resources) and CPRW (Certified Professional Resume Writer). 

Liz Lamorena, Manager Human Resources, Athletico Physical Therapy

Liz Lamorena is the Human Resources Manager at Athletico, a leading provider of outpatient Physical Therapy with over 350 clinics in 9 states.  With over 10 years of experience in HR she has actively helped build the HR team at Athletico and currently oversees the Talent Acquisition and Compensation and Benefits teams at Athletico.   Her additional areas of responsibility include employee relations and talent management.  Liz also has extensive hands-on experience leading HR initiatives including policy and procedure design, HR workflow development, HR systems implementation and benefits design and administration.  In addition to her HR leadership responsibilities, Liz sits on Athletico’s Charitable Giving Committee and has participated in Athletico’s Leadership Development Program.  
Liz holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Iowa and masters of business administration from Concordia University – Chicago.  She has also served as a member of the Leadership Board for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago since 2011.   


Agni Kitsios, President, Kitsios Consulting, Inc.

Agni Kitsios is an accomplished business transformation leader, with a proven track record in helping executives transform leading organizations. She has helped internal and external clients facilitate change and achieve sustained improvement through collaborative, value-added services which provide solutions for today and vision for the future.  With expertise in organization effectiveness and change management, she has led change initiatives for various strategic interventions including major re-structuring, implementation of OD/HR programs, mergers and acquisitions, and technology implementations. Using innovative services and proven techniques, she has helped individuals, teams and organizations improve their performance.  
Agni is also a skilled executive coach, helping her clients integrate desired business results with personal fulfillment. Using a variety of assessment tools in her coaching approach including interviews, 360-degree instruments and personality assessments, she provides a comprehensive and effective process to her coaching clients.  Agni has held key, senior leadership positions in OD/OE and change management at Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) in both consulting and internal roles. She is currently the owner and lead consultant of her own consulting firm, Kitsios Consulting, Inc. founded in 1999 (

Rhonda Shah, Human Resource Director, Schneider Electric

Rhonda Shah began her career with Schneider Electric in 2004 and has held various positions within the Human Resource function.  Responsibilities have included talent acquisition, HR management for manufacturing operations, and business partnering with front office functions.  Rhonda is currently the HR Business Partner to multiple organizations across Schneider Electric's Global Supply Chain.  These include Logistics, Purchasing, Supply Chain Planning, and Safety/Environment/Facility Management.  
Rhonda received her B.S. from the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana.  She also serves as a committee member of HRMAC’s West Suburban Interest Group.


This program has been approved for 1.5 business credit hours toward PHR/SPHR/GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) as well as 4 professional development credits (PDC's) toward SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification.
