Carl Kutsmode, Managing Partner, Talent Rise

TalentRISE is a boutique talent acquisition management consulting and recruiting services firm based in Chicago that helps growing companies to transform their business through talent.  Carl and his team at TalentRISE specialize in addressing corporate talent acquisition challenges and are often initially engaged as management consultants to assess talent acquisition related business risks and operational gaps. As expert recruiting professionals, TalentRISE provides retained executive search and managed contract recruiting services to help employers meet the rapidly changing talent needs of their business.     
In his off hours, Carl’s passion for helping employers and job seekers connect effectively extends to his volunteer work with the STAR Chicago as an active volunteer and past board member. Carl also serves on the Chicago Leadership Advisory Board for which helps new immigrant professionals successfully navigate a US Job search in order to secure meaningful employment in their professions.  In 2013 Carl was asked to join the corporate advisory board of the Center for Research and Service at Illinois Institute of Technology to provide market insights into future corporate talent management trends and best practices. 

Carl is a graduate of Loyola University with a B.S. degree in Psychology .  In 2010 he was awarded the Staffing Management Consultant of the Year award by the Chicago Area Minority Recruiters association.  He has been an Invited speaker and corporate trainer at numerous industry related events, trade shows and private corporate annual meetings including topics relevant to talent management operations, recruiting best practices and trends.  

Amy Cwalina, Talent Acquisition Manager, Uptake/Lightbank 

Uptake partners with industry leaders builds predictive analytics software that grows smarter in one industry informed by an insight we gathered from another. Their team drives this success by connecting customers and partners to the value of the Internet of Things, business-centric architectures and key technology transitions. While Uptake connects their customers, Amy’s team connects curious, nimble and passionate people to their growing team.
Before Uptake, Amy was at the Venture Capital firm, Lightbank.  At Lightbank, she worked with their portfolio of start-ups around the country helping to develop their hiring strategy and recruiting a range of talent from sales and engineering teams to executives.  When she’s not talking about work, she’s talking about the latest recipe she tried; adventure she went on, or can be found challenging anyone who doesn’t think Michigan State is the better school from the mitten.

Matthew Perry, Vice President, Global Talent Acquisition, Conversant Media

Matt leads the talent acquisition team, both within the U.S. as well as internationally, responsible for 170+ open requisitions and an annual goal of 500+ placements.  Driving the continued development of best practices for Talent Acquisition and HR Business Partners, Matt works to ensure optimal performance and an exemplary candidate experience. Furthermore, while supporting every division within the organization including Analytics, Technology, Client Integration, Sales, Marketing and Operations, he also manages an array of external recruiting partnerships and oversees the departmental budget with the ultimate goal of minimizing cost per hire while simultaneously reducing time to fill.  

Matt has 15 years recruiting experience in the corporate and retained search environment.  Currently he reports to the SVP Talent Acquisition at Epsilon and firmly believes in running corporate talent acquisition team like a retained search firm to ensure speed to market, subject matter expertise and exceptional candidate experience.  He received a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Villanova University and Bachelor of Arts in Communications from University of Kansas.  

Julie Meyer, Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition, West Monroe Partners
Julie is responsible for national talent acquisition for a fast-growing and highly selective consultancy known for its unique blend of exceptional business consulting and technology skills. She has 16 years of experience as a recruiting executive for leading organizations in the professional services, media, and insurance industries.  She leads West Monroe Partners’ Talent Acquisition function, which sources experienced and entry-level business consulting and technical talent for the firm’s eight offices across the United States. Since joining West Monroe Partners in 2007, she has guided development of the function, which has played a critical role in building a workforce that has fueled the firm’s rapid, year-on-year growth. During her tenure, West Monroe Partners has grown from 150 employees to 550 at the beginning of 2015.

Today, Julie oversees a team of high-performing recruiters who attract, assess, and manage a rewarding candidate experience for individuals considering opportunities with the firm.  Julie joined West Monroe Partners in 2007 from the Chicago Tribune, for which she recruited top talent for several departments, including Advertising, Interactive, Marketing, Finance, and Chicagoland Publishing. Her previous experience includes regional recruiting roles with Mercer Human Resources Consulting and CNA Insurance.   Julie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication & Management from DePaul University. 

Elissa Beckman – Head of Talent & Human Resources, SpotHero 

Elissa is passionate about growing talent functions at startups!  She recently joined SpotHero as the Head of Talent & HR, where she oversees recruiting, onboarding, employee benefits, performance management and employee development, as well as all other ongoing talent management and HR needs.  Prior to SpotHero, she was the head of Talent Management at Avant, a Chicago-based online lending organization that has 750+ employees and has raised over $1 billion in capital.  Prior to Avant, she worked as the Director of People at Belly, and was formerly VP of Empowerment at PaySimple, a Denver-based online payments platform.  Elissa completed her undergrad at Washington University in St. Louis, where she played varsity sports, and went to grad school at the University of Denver.  In her spare time she enjoys traveling, reading lots of books, teaching yoga, and being as active as possible.


This program has been approved for 1.5 credit hours towards PHR/SPHR/SPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) as well as 1.5 professional development credits (PDC's) toward SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification.
