 VOI - Demonstrating Value on Technology Investment

The purchase and expense of any sort of HR technology will invariably involve your Finance department. But sometimes, HR and Finance don’t speak the same language. This session will explore how HR can best partner with Finance, specifically when it comes to data and technology. We will focus on:

- How and when to engage with your Finance department.
- What is the role of Finance and HR in change management when it comes to technology adoption? 
- Top 5 acronyms your CFO wants you to know, and how to use them.

Moderator:
Ronni Beckwith, PHR, CCP, Director of HRIS Consulting ihouse, A HUB International Company
Ronni, with over 16 years of experience in various industries in the Human Resource field, oversees the strategic direction of an HRIS Consulting team that supports clients for analysis, system selection, client side implementation consulting and project management. Prior to joining ihouse, Ronni worked in key positions leading best practice initiatives in compensation, HRIS and talent management. She holds a Master of Arts in Management from Bellevue University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resource Management from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Panelists:
Joni Duncan, Chief Human Resources Officer, Lurie Children’s Hospital 
Ms. Duncan has been in the human resources field for over 20 years, overseeing the functions of recruitment, employee relations, labor relations, compensation, benefits and organizational development.  Prior employers include Advocate Christ Medical Center, where she was a member of their Summit Leadership program.  Ms. Duncan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Science degree in Industrial Relations from Loyola University of Chicago.  Ms. Duncan was named a 2014 Fellow of Leadership Greater Chicago, a nonprofit civic leadership organization and is a member of the Executive’s Club of Chicago, Society for Human Resources Management, the Human Resources Management Association of Chicago She is also on the board of Urban Initiatives, a non-profit organization that runs health, education, and character development programming for kids in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS).
 
Thomas Galvan, CFO, Rising Medical Solutions
Tom Galvan spent the last 30 years managing the finances for small to medium sized privately owned companies.  His CFO experience has been in industries ranging from healthcare services, direct marketing sales, and manufacturing.  He is currently with Rising Medical Solutions, a cost containment company principally dealing with insurers that are in the workers compensation and auto insurance markets.  As an executive for companies of this size, the crossover into other departments such as operation and human resources is natural and quite prevalent.  As such, Tom wears many hats in the organizations with which he is involved. Tom has his bachelors’ degree in Accounting and Finance from DePaul University, is a registered CPA in the State of Illinois and earned a CFP designation from the University of Denver.
 
Roberta Kushen, Vice President of HR, Byline Bank
With over 20 years of human resources leadership experience, Roberta Kushen is skilled in the development and execution of HR initiatives while aligning business strategies to all facets of human resources. Her vast experience includes staffing and recruitment, compensation program design, due diligence and integration of mergers & acquisitions, and more. Known for implementation of leading-edge, cost-efficient benefits programs and increasing employee engagement measures through implementation of “people-friendly” policies and programs, Roberta has experience in management of internal communications and employee branding strategies with a focus on incentive compensation programs. Roberta has led organizations such as Banco Popular, Potbelly, Feeding America and currently is SVP of Human Resources for Byline Bank. She is an alumnus of Northeastern Illinois University, with a degree in Spanish and Secondary Education.
  
James J. Patterson, Senior Vice President and CFO, PLS Financial Services
Jim Patterson is an experienced CFO with a track record of leading change in fast growing companies, and has served as CFO in three different industries – retail financial services, graphics arts and agricultural chemicals and fertilizers. Jim started his career as an auditor for six years for a large national CPA firm.  A Certified Public Accountant, Jim has more than 30 years of experience in accounting, auditing, treasury, tax and purchasing.  Jim has completed over 30 acquisitions and has completed numerous successful financing transactions.  Jim has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from DePaul University and was named CFO of The Year in the Chicago area in 2005 by the National Investor Relations Institute and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
