Are you prepared to help manage your company's financial future? Do you understand how the HR department's budget fits into the big picture? Are you able to read your company's financial statements and determine how you can impact the bottom line?

HR Leaders, not just the CEO and CFO, need to think in terms of ROI and the bottom line. This new and improved program combines understanding, application, and discussion of important financial management concepts, resulting in improved financial skills and decision making. Instructor Maureen Kiernan will review how to tie budget initiatives to company goals. She'll also walk through how to read and understand financial statements and will illustrate how individual department managers' actions can directly affect the company's financial future.

Participants will:

  • Understand the Language of Business - Accounting data is the cornerstone of business. In this course you will gain an understanding of financial terminology and concepts, enabling you to ask the right questions of financial data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Understand Financial Statements - Gain a basic understanding of the key financial statements that evaluate company performance and forecast needs: balance sheets, income statements and budgets.
  • Use Financial Data to Make Decisions - Gain tools and insights for making better financial decisions. Leverage data improve processes, shape strategy, and innovate.
  • Understand the principles of and calculations behind ROI (return on investment) for HR projects - ROI has long been used in business as a financial tool for determining the value of an investment.  With the  growing demand for evidence for positive returns on HR investments, HR professionals must have an easy-to-understand approach to quantifying ROI.  In this course, learn how to collect meaningful data, measure ROI and communicate the positive impact of HR's work on the organization.
