The Link Between Employee Loyalty , Customer Loyalty
and a Successful Bottom Line
The exploration into human resources leadership issues continues at the last program of HRMAC's 2008 Leadership Series on June 5. Executives from three very different businesses come together to discuss how they create a workforce culture that strengthens employee loyalty which leads to greater customer loyalty and increased profits.
If it's true that 80% of your profit comes from 20% of your customers, then customer loyalty has never been more important than in today's competitive business environment. With so many options for the same products and services, how do successful companies use their people practices to set themselves apart from their competitors?
Our panel of experts will explore how customer loyalty is different than customer satisfaction and the key role that employee loyalty plays in driving business success.
Panelists for the program include Maxine Clark, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Bear, Build-A-Bear Workshop, Inc., Dr. Robert Passikoff, Founder and President, Brand Keys, Inc. and Deidre Drake, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Harris Bank.

Program on Innovation Brings Together Area Leaders
HR leaders from across the Chicago area gathered on February 13 to explore the issue of innovation in the workplace and the human resources leadership that is needed to create a culture that recognizes and encourages innovation throughout the organization. Nearly 300 people attended the breakfast session at the Standard Club where our panel of experts provided their insights from three very different vantage points.
Daniel Socolow, Director of the Fellows Program at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, discussed strategies for identifying candidates for the MacArthur fellowship. The fellowship provides a $500,000 unrestricted grant to individuals who have “shown extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction.” According to Dr. Socolow, innovative people often work on their own and are often who we least expect.
Confidence plays a huge role in innovation, according to Margaret Stender, President and CEO of the Chicago Sky, the city’s WNBA franchise. Working with professional-level athletes, she said, is unique because they are all exceptionally talented and at the top of their field. It’s the confidence in their skills and knowing that they can come together as a team that sets the winners apart.
Understanding the skill sets of employees and providing the opportunities for them to excel is key to creating a culture of innovation, according to Rick Stephens, Senior Vice President for Human Resources and Administration at Boeing. Getting people into the right teams and having clear expectations and goals is an important factor to success.
A full recap of the program appears in the April issue of HR Leader, HRMAC’s member e-newsletter.
