Volunteer Opportunities
2008-2009
Volunteering at HRMAC is a rewarding experience! You have an opportunity to
advance your profession, meet new colleagues, use your skills, develop new
expertise, and give back to HRMAC – YOUR professional association – and have a
lot of fun at the same time. We welcome your time and talent!
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS

Your organization is a member of HRMAC or you are a HRMAC Transition,
Student or Civic member for 2008-2009.

You have a dedication to furthering the mission of HRMAC
-
You have knowledge relevant to your assigned committee
-
You can commit to actively participating in all committee meetings and
activities (in person or via conference call)

You will act as an ambassador for HRMAC in the Chicagoland HR community
Time
commitments vary by committee and special skills may be desired for service on
certain committees.
COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS
Management Committees
Membership
Purpose:
to retain
current members and recruit new members through membership marketing campaigns
and member engagement activities.
Commitment:
Several meetings
throughout the year to review and develop campaign concepts; active solicitation
during retention and recruitment campaigns, specifically in June/July as renewal
period concludes.
Expertise desired:
Marketing; recruitment and retention strategies; professional contacts in the
local HR community
Products and Services
Purpose: to
identify and recommend new products and services, including those through
alliance relationships, that support HRMAC’s mission; to oversee implementation
of new products and services; to manage current products and services that are
not supported by another Association committee (i.e. audio conferences,
newsletter, etc.).
Commitment:
three to four meetings per year, depending on activity level and issues that
surface; attendance at programs and services overseen by committee.
Expertise Desired:
creativity and enthusiasm for innovation and new ideas; project management;
analytical skills
Public Relations
Purpose:
provide
guidance, support and implementation of “image” activities including, but not
limited to, media response and outreach, and HRMAC awards program.
Commitment:
meetings
as needed (in person and/or conference call) to respond to media requests and
oversee awards program activities. Maintain awareness and expertise in the human
capital arena.
Expertise Desired: public
speaking; marketing; media connections; media experience
Research
Purpose:
define, develop and deliver data-based resources to the membership. The
resources may be in a variety of formats including events, surveys and white
papers. These resources may be sourced through internal efforts or through
alliances with appropriate organizations.
Commitment:
four to six full committee meetings each year plus the potential for task force
meetings during concentrated periods of product selection and implementation.
Expertise Desired:
research skills; statistics;
in-depth knowledge of current
and emerging HR trends and subject-matter experts
Technology
Purpose:
provide guidance and recommend opportunities for HRMAC to provide
technology-based learning/networking offerings; assist in identifying topics and
presenters for technology based educational programs.
Commitment:
three to four meetings per year, depending on activity level.
Expertise Desired: knowledge of new technologies and their use in
professional education/networking, knowledge of strategic HR leadership issues,
creativity and enthusiasm for innovation and new ideas.
Event
Committees
Leadership Series 2010
Purpose: to
develop, produce and implement a series of educational sessions that support
HRMAC’s mission by providing content-rich programs, networking opportunities for
all attendees and generating a revenue stream for the Association.
Commitment:
several meetings
(including in-person and conference calls, especially between June-October) to
review feedback from previous Leadership Series, identify direction for 2008
Series and develop programs, content and marketing support; may include
sponsorship solicitation.
Expertise Desired:
in-depth knowledge of current and emerging HR trends and subject-matter experts;
educational program development; project management
Summit 2009
Purpose: to
produce and implement a single-day event offering content-rich professional
development programming, networking and vendor visibility that attracts a broad
audience with interest in strategic workforce issues.
Commitment:
six to ten meetings per year, especially during late fall through spring;
attendance at event; support for attendee recruitment and exhibitor/sponsor
solicitation; direct involvement to attract thought-provoking speakers.
Expertise Desired:
in-depth knowledge of current and emerging HR trends and subject-matter experts;
educational program development; project management
Golf Outing 2009
Purpose: to
produce the annual recreational outing with consideration of past feedback,
organizational needs and network-focused activity.
Commitment:
one to two meetings (usually via conference call), especially in late fall/early
winter; assistance with promotion and sponsor solicitation; logistics support on
site.
Expertise Desired:
project management; familiarity with large group/client events
Interest Groups (see below for descriptions)
Purpose:
to provide HRMAC
members with opportunities for professional development and networking along
functional lines and geographic area.
Commitment:
each group
operates autonomously and processes and methods may vary. However, each group
will meet several times each year and is accountable for developing, producing and implementing up to four events per year
which focus on content-rich educational programming and networking
opportunities. Assist in securing speakers and work with staff on promotion and
registration for the events.
Members:
each Interest Group planning committee will have 2 co-chairs plus committee
members (number to be determined by co-chairs).
Expertise Desired:
in-depth knowledge of current and emerging HR trends and subject-matter experts
related to the functional area; educational program development; project
management

This
regional group plans events that cover all aspects of the HR function.
North/Northwest Suburban Group
This
regional group plans events that cover all aspects of the HR function.
Executive Roundtables
Purpose:
to provide senior
human resources executives with a forum to network and discuss a broad range of
strategic issues and how these issues impact the HR function.
Commitment:
planning
committee will meet several times each year and is accountable for
producing and implementing
events which provide participants with a local peer network to share
leading-edge information and benchmark against best practices in a neutral
setting. Each program will be sponsored by a HRMAC vendor member and the sponsor
will provide the topic, content, and speaker(s). Committee will coordinate with
sponsors to ensure content is appropriate and to avoid overlap. Committee will
secure locations for all programs and work with staff on promotion and
registration for the events. Attendance at senior executive programs. May be
asked to participate in work of other committees related to the executive
market.
Expertise Desired:
knowledge of leading-edge
issues of concern to senior HR executives; educational program development;
project management;
