(Chicago, October 6, 2009) – The Human Resources Management Association of Chicago will recognize Joseph Golbus, MD, as its 2009 Leader of the Year. The presentation will occur at HRMAC’s premier event, SUMMIT 2009, on Wednesday, October 21. The Award was launched to recognize and honor an exceptional business leader who has demonstrated the ability to execute leading-edge human capital practices while realizing business strategy success.
“As corporate leaders experience greater success through the implementation of effective human capital strategies, the role of the HR leader will become more significant contributors to the overall strategy,” noted Maureen Tarantello, HRMAC board chair and global account manager, Watson Wyatt Worldwide. “Our goal in honoring Dr. Golbus is to celebrate his organization’s success and help his CEO peers throughout the region realize the benefits of productive people policies,” she continued.
Dr. Golbus, a rheumatologist by training, became the first President of NorthShore Medical Group in 1988, a position he continues to hold today. Shortly after being appointed to that role, he began the journey to transform the culture and practices of the Group to create an environment that would earn the patients’ loyalty. Through the process of embedding learning and development, culture change, incentive compensation and innovative HR methodologies, he has been able to reduce physician attrition to 5.2% and improve customer loyalty scores over the last 5 years.
In addition to the Leader of the Year Award presentation, the Volunteer of the Year Award will be presented at the gathering to Ron Sipiora, Senior Vice President, Aon Consulting.
SUMMIT 2009 is the largest annual gathering of human resources professionals in the Midwest and includes presentations by business and industry thought-leaders, a trade show and special events for young HR leaders and chief human resources officers. Over 800 Chicago area human resources professionals are expected to attend the event being held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont.
Since its founding in 1915, HRMAC has been leading the dialogue on workplace strategy, connecting HR leaders with the industry’s best-in-class resources, and growing Chicago area companies and talent. With a membership of over 750 organizations and a network of more than 5,000 HR professionals, HRMAC’s mission is to inspire workplace leadership by helping members share ideas, collaborate with peers and build new relationships.
