Stephanie Smith was appointed Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer for DePaul University in November, 2012 Prior to joining DePaul, Stephanie was employed by Kraft Foods for over 20 years before its recent company split. As the Senior Vice President-Human Resources for Kraft Foods North America, she was a key member of Kraft’s global leadership team.
Prior to her career at Kraft, Smith held a variety of human resources positions in the headquarters and the field operations for two major retailers: Montgomery Ward & Co. and Carson Pirie Scott.
Stephanie serves as a board trustee for Steppenwolf Theatre and is on the board of directors for the Yellow Tractor Program, which advocates for sustainable growth and food security by building vegetable and fruit gardens. Smith is a member of The Executive Leadership Council, a nonprofit organization of African-American executives whose mission is to develop leaders and build an inclusive leadership pipeline in companies and institutions.
A native of Detroit, Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Science in journalism from Northwestern University.
Stephanie was elected to the Board in 2013 and served one year as board secretary. She has been an active member of the Future HRMAC Leaders Task Force where she also served as a faculty member.
