Volunteer Opportunities 2018-2019


Make a splash with HRMAC by volunteering! Help us continue our more than 100-year tradition of member-led initiatives as a member benefit. By volunteering, you have an opportunity to advance your profession, meet new colleagues, use your skills, develop new expertise, and give back to HRMAC – YOUR professional association – and have a lot of fun at the same time. Deadlines and more information will be coming soon!

Volunteer Requirements and Expectations:

  • Your organization is a member of HRMAC or you are a HRMAC Transition, Student or Civic member for the July 2018 - June 2019 fiscal year. 
  • You have a dedication to furthering the mission of HRMAC.  
  • You have knowledge relevant to your assigned committee.  
  • You can commit to actively participating in all committee meetings and activities (in person or via conference call). 
  • You will act as an ambassador for HRMAC in the Chicagoland HR community

Purpose: retain and engage current members, and recruit new members through membership marketing campaigns and member engagement activities. 

 minimum of six meetings throughout the year (in-person and conference call) to develop and produce recruitment and retention campaigns; active solicitation of member prospects during campaigns, including in June/July as renewal period concludes.  May be asked to provide guidance on various membership related issues or events.

Expertise desired:
  marketing; recruitment and retention strategies; professional contacts in the local HR community; willingness to make calls or in-person meetings to potential and current members. 

Public Relations
Purpose: provide guidance, support and implementation of “image” activities including, but not limited to, media response, outreach, and the Awards of Excellence.

 meetings as needed (in-person and/or conference call) to respond to media requests and oversee awards program activities. Maintain awareness and expertise in the human capital arena. 

Expertise Desired:
 public speaking; marketing; media connections; media experience

Education Programs & Products
Purpose: define, develop and deliver various educational offerings that support HRMAC's mission by providing content-rich programs, networking opportunities and generating a revenue stream for the Association.  

 several committee meetings each year plus the potential for task force meetings during concentrated periods of program development and implementation.  Attendance at select programs.

Expertise Desired:
  in-depth knowledge of current and emerging HR trends; ability to identify subject-matter experts; knowledge of educational program development; project management; learning & development expertise. 

Leadership Series 2019
Purpose: develop, produce and implement the three-part Leadership Series that supports HRMAC’s mission by providing content-rich programs, networking opportunities for all attendees and generating a revenue stream for the Association.

 several meetings (including in-person and conference calls, especially between June-November) to review feedback from previous Leadership Series, identify direction for 2018 Series, and develop program content. Direct involvement in securing thought-provoking speakers and assist in marketing support.

Expertise Desired:
 in-depth knowledge of current and emerging HR trends and senior level subject matter experts; educational program development; project management; connections to C-Suite executives and senior leaders to secure as speakers. 


Purpose: produce and implement the annual Summit, a single day event offering content-rich professional development programming, networking and supplier visibility that attracts a broad audience with interest in strategic workforce issues.

 10-12 meetings per year via conference call and in person, especially during fall through spring; attendance at event; support for attendee recruitment and exhibitor/sponsor solicitation; direct involvement to attract thought-provoking speakers; renew and provide guidance on education session proposals and to speakers.

Expertise Desired:
 in-depth knowledge of current and emerging HR trends and subject matter experts; educational program development; project management; connections with high-profile speakers; public speaking and facilitation skills. 


Purpose: produce and implement webinars and other online programs for a broad audience of the HRMAC membership.

Commitment: 3-4 meetings per year, plus possible sub-committee meetings, depending on activity level.  Assist in identifying topics/reviewing proposals for technology-based programs; ability to moderate one program or as needed.

Expertise Desired: knowledge of the broad HR function and knowledge of strategic HR leadership issues, creativity and enthusiasm for innovation and new ideas. 

Purpose: ensure a quality publication that will better serve our members and add to member benefits. 

Commitment: 4-6 conference calls to discuss strategy for quarterly publication; review and select articles for the publication. Must be able to review article submissions and meet publication deadlines. Time commitment may vary depending on number of submissions.

Expertise Desired: can provide an area of expertise of current HR and business trends; knowledge about association publications a plus.

Golf Outing 2019
Purpose: produce the annual recreational outing with consideration of past feedback, organizational needs and network-focused activity.

Commitment: Two meetings (usually via conference call), especially in late fall and early spring; assistance with promotion and sponsor solicitation; logistics support on site.

Expertise Desired:
 project management; familiarity with large group/client events 

CHRO Roundtables
Purpose: provide senior human resources executives with a forum to network and discuss a broad range of strategic issues and their impact on HR function.  

 planning committee will meet 2-3 times each year and is accountable for producing and implementing events, which provide participants with a local peer network to share leading-edge information and benchmark against best practices in a neutral setting. Attendance at senior executive programs. May be asked to participate in work of other committees related to the executive market.

CHRO Roundtables (5): The roundtable will be sponsored by a HRMAC professional services member and the sponsor will provide the topic, content, and  speaker(s). Committee will coordinate with sponsors to ensure content is appropriate and to avoid overlap.  Committee will secure locations for all programs and work with staff on promotion and on-site support for the events.

Expertise Desired: knowledge of leading-edge issues of concern to senior HR executives; educational program development; project management. Committee members limited to CHRO level executive employed or in transition.

Interest Groups
Purpose: provide HRMAC members with opportunities for professional development and networking along functional lines and geographic area.  

Commitment: each group operates autonomously and processes and methods may vary.  However, each group will meet several times each year and is accountable for developing, producing and implementing a minimum of three (3) events per year which focus on content-rich educational programming and networking opportunities. Secure speakers and meeting space, and work with staff on promotion and registration for the events. Attendance at programs strongly preferred. Each Interest Group planning committee will have two co-chairs plus committee members (number to be determined by co-chairs).

Expertise Desired:
 in-depth knowledge of current and emerging HR trends and subject-matter experts related to the functional area; educational program development; project management.
