Talent
in a Age of Uncertainty Finding, retaining and developing talent are among the toughest challenges facing business today. Compounding the issue in these erratic economic times is not having the right number and mix of talent which can disable an organization. Noted researcher and author Peter Cappelli shares his insights into a new talent management model that balances developing talent in-house with buying it on the open market. You will learn to maximize the return on your talent investments and manage the uncertainty in talent-need forecasts. Peter Cappelli is the George W. Taylor Professor of Management and Director of the Center for Human Resources at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He is also the Co-Director of the U.S. Department of Education National Center on the Educational Quality of the Workforce and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Prior to joining the faculty at Wharton, Peter held positions at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Illinois and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Peter has authored several articles and his most recent book, Talent on Demand: Managing Talent in an Age of Uncertainty was published by Harvard Business School Press in 2008. Peter holds a bachelors of science from Cornell University and a doctor of philosophy from University of Oxford. The Role of Human
Resources In Enterprise Risk Management: A Panel Discussion Discover a new role for human resources that will enhance your strategic contribution to the organization by identifying and protecting it from losses due to unrecognized strategic and operational risks. Every enterprise exists to provide value to its shareholders, customers, employees and other stakeholders. Enterprise Risk Management is a key function of today’s business leaders as they align operations to minimize threats to the enterprise while maximizing potential gain to stakeholders. It is more than just ensuring that operations adhere to applicable laws and regulations. It includes mitigating all potential risks from both internal and external sources. SUMMIT 2009 brings together a panel of business leaders experienced in identifying and managing risk for their organizations. They will share their insights into the role of human resources in identifying potential risks to an enterprise and developing strategies that mitigate their affect while ensuring continued growth. Among the issues to be discussed are compensation, transparency, reducing operational losses, maximizing opportunities, and compliance.
