THE NEXT TECH PARADIGM SHIFTS: HOW NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND NEW MEDIA
ARE FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGING OUR WORLD

Peter Leyden

SUMMIT 2011 begins with a look at the interconnectedness of business and technology. This session explores the developments that have shaped our world over the first decade of the 21st Century and where we are headed from here. Business is no longer bound by the constraints of one building, one city or one country. It exists in a web of interconnectedness and information that can engage customers and empower employees as never before. You will hear how companies are taking advantage of rapidly changing technologies to expand their presence with key stakeholders and drive bottom line success.

Peter Leyden understands technology and new media, having served as managing editor of the original Wired magazine that introduced the digital revolution to the world. Peter is the Founder of Next Agenda, a company that helps organizations solve complex problems through the use of technology and web tools. He has worked at the Global Business Network, a firm focusing on future trends and was a director of the New Politics Institute, a think tank that helps people in politics understand emerging new technologies, new media, and the new demographic reality of America. He is the co-author of The Long Boom, a History of the Future, 1980-2020 and >What’s Next? Exploring the New Terrain for Business.

THE 2020 WORKPLACE: ATTRACTING, DEVELOPING AND KEEPING TOMORROW'S EMPLOYEES TODAY
Jeanne Meister

For years, business leaders have been talking about the challenges coming with the future workforce. But when you consider that the first wave of the millennial generation is already well entrenched in the workplace, the future is now. The best companies are already preparing strategies to win the war for top talent. The 2020 workplace will be defined by acute vision - 20/20 vision - with regard to how companies design innovative strategies for sourcing, developing and keeping tomorrow's employees today. This program will explore how the convergence of workplace trends - shifting demographics, globalization, Web 2.0 technologies and the changing needs of workers - are placing increased pressure on employers to overhaul their approach to talent management.

Jeanne C. Meister is a partner in Future Workplace and is an internationally recognized workplace learning consultant. She has worked with over 200 organizations including Anheuser-Bush, Guardian Life Insurance, Wachovia, University of Chicago Hospitals, and the U.S. Department of Defense. DEVELOPING EMERGING LEADERS
Panel Discussion

As the war for talent heats up, putting HR strategies in place to cultivate and retain emerging talent in the organization for leadership roles is critical. Today, many organizations face a new challenge - not only the development of leaders to fill the top positions but also developing those in the mid-level ranks with high potential. Key challenges include the delayed retirement of Baby Boomers which is limiting the advancement of the next generation of leaders. The role of HR includes making the business case to have a sharper focus on leadership development and succession planning. Companies must find challenging opportunities to continue to develop and retain top talent.

SUMMIT 2011 brings together business leaders to discuss new ways that companies are looking at learning and leadership development. They will discuss what companies are doing to strengthen their workforce and develop a new generation of leaders to drive business success.

IGNITING PERFORMANCE IN YOUR ORGANIZATION
Nilofer Merchant

Engineers are leaders in their organizations because they are artists of technology. Marketers contribute by being sculptors of identity; the finance guys because they are conductors of cash. HR leads when they are maestros of people, bringing together the talent, purpose and culture that create outstanding business performance. Our new economy is about producing ideas, experiences and meaning - fueled by creativity that enables innovative thinking and collaborative work to enable a company to outpace the competition. Every element within an organization ideally rises to the occasion. But it's how we assemble those components that makes the difference. SUMMIT 2011 closes with a look at new opportunities for ourselves and our organizations and the powerful outcomes that can be realized when we bring together the elements of people, talent and culture in the right way.

As a CEO, author, and business strategist, Nilofer Merchant has earned a reputation for helping companies to win markets and institute a culture of innovation. She combines strategic models, market insight, and a deep understanding of the human condition, resulting in practical advice that works.
