Stephanie Waite, Director of Leadership & Organizational Development, Lurie Children’s Hospital

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Stephanie served as an educator in both the public education and corporate sector, and as an internal and external consultant for Fortune 100, 150 and 500 companies.Stephanie obtained her Masters of Science in Learning and Organizational Change from Northwestern University, and is currently an instructor for their Designing Organizational Effectiveness Certificate program. Additionally, Stephanie serves on the board as the Vice President of the Association for Change Management Professionals (ACMP). Prior to moving internally with Lurie Children’s Hospital, Stephanie was solicited to develop their leadership competencies and behaviors, in addition to building a philosophy and strategy to benchmark leadership growth and development throughout the organization –what is now the foundation for all leadership programming and development. As the Director of Leadership & Organizational Development, Stephanie is responsible for setting and implementing the strategy for leadership and organizational development, developing and optimizing leadership programming to support the human resources and organizational strategic objectives. Additionally, she serves as an internal consultant and trusted adviser for implementation of large scale behavioral, strategic, operational and change initiatives to over 400 leaders.

Karen J. Richey is the Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital

She is responsible for oversight of nursing and nursing services for the inpatient areas at Lurie Children’s currently leading the inpatient expansion project that will add 72 additional critical care beds.  Karen has focused on improving nursing processes through leadership development and innovative solutions while enhancing professional governance behaviors through the nursing governance model at Lurie Children’s. Karen was instrumental in new hospital planning, merging unit leadership teams and the acute care inpatient units in preparation for the move to the new hospital while implementing various new equipment and technologies. She coordinated Patient and Family Experience Initiatives, implementing the Family Initiated Rapid Safety Team (FIRST), established a partnership with Walgreens to implement bedside medication delivery for patients being discharged, and co-led the implementation of GetWell Network education and entertainment system throughout Lurie Children’s. Karen began her career at Lurie Children’s in 1988 as a registered nurse, and has served as the Director of the Neuroscience Unit and Neurodiagnostics departments, Senior Director of Acute Care Services, and was named Associate Chief Nursing Officer in 2017. Karen received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at Ball State University and her Masters of Business Administration degree at National Louis University.  

Eileen Linnabery, Ph. D. Consultant, Vantage

Eileen’s career centers around her passion for increasing the commitment, retention, and competitive advantage of talented professionals to fully leverage their capabilities and potential. Through assessment, coaching, training development, and 360-feedback, she assists leaders in developing a better understanding of themselves as leaders, and to help them reframe how they approach their work. She works with leaders and their stakeholders to identify the opportunities for growth that will make the most meaningful shift in their leadership. Often, this includes leveraging and honing unique strengths that the leader can use to make a broader impact on the business. She sets leaders up for success by involving their reporting managers in the process early on to ensure that the behavioral goals identified align with organizational goals, then monitors and measures progress by assessing the exact behaviors targeted in the leader’s development plan. Eileen also remains an active contributor to the field through her volunteerism and thought leadership/research. She continues to publish in well-known leadership and organizational journals and present at psychological conferences such as the Society for Industrial Organizational Psychology, Midwest Psychological Association, and the Academy of Management.

Jane Shlaes, Director, Learning & Organizational Development, College of American Pathologists

Jane Shlaes is a healthcare learning and organization development professional with over 25 years of experience in different segments of the healthcare industry, including hospitals, physician practices, healthcare associations, pharmaceuticals and health manufacturing. Jane joined the College of American Pathologists in October of 2012 as Director of Learning & Organizational Development.  Her work focuses on growing the skills of CAP staff and pathologist members with a focus on interpersonal effectiveness and leadership development, as well as helping CAP drive its business change agenda. For over 10 years Jane played a key leadership role in implementation and optimization of North Shore University Health System’s electronic health record, Epic. She led the education and communication for the original “big bang” implementation and supported increased system optimization through ongoing upgrades, enhancements and additional go lives. Jane brings a wealth of experience in leadership and physician development, change management, and presentation skills.  She is certified as a Physician Development Coach and a Myers Briggs Type Indicator Practitioner.

Joe Schramm, MAMC, Director, Enterprise Communications, College of American Pathologists (CAP)

Joe leads the CAP’s Enterprise Communications team, which is responsible for communication to internal and external audiences. The team works collaboratively with CAP member and staff leaders in communications strategy, planning, and implementation for Laboratory Improvement Programs, Information Services, Human Resources/Learning & Development, Governance, Membership & Professional Development, Education, and the CAP Foundation. In 2017, Joe began serving as an instructor for the CAP’s Leadership Development Program: 7 Habits for Managers. A veteran of the CAP for more than 25 years, Joe lends a wealth of organizational expertise for both internal and external audiences. In addition to his role at the CAP, he is vice president of Snow City Arts, which provides one-on-one instruction in the arts to hospitalized children and youth. 



Carol Henriques, Founder and Managing Partner of HighBar Consulting

Carol has 25 years of experience helping clients address business and organizational challenges. She started her career in industry and the public sector, eventually leading organization transformation efforts inside Pfizer and Ameritech. Carol then transitioned to external consulting where she took her experience to a variety of industries.  She helped build and led consulting practices for the next ten years before starting HighBar Consulting in 2009. Through HighBar, Carol has had the opportunity to work not only with for-profit companies, but to also pursue her passion of serving purpose-driven organizations. She provides a unique blend of deep subject-matter expertise, objectivity, critical thinking, pragmatism, and flexibility to each of her clients’ unique situations. Carol is passionate about building deep long-term trusted advisor relationships with clients.
