Employers are dealing with evolving business and regulatory landscapes that are changing the way they address fairness and transparency in pay.  Mariann Madden from Willis Towers Watson will lead a discussion on how emerging legislation, shareholder activism, demographic shifts as well as technology and the media can impact pay and your employer brand.  During the session, we will also address how employers are dealing not only with the inherent policy issues, but also the practical administrative challenges that employers face in creating pay equity.

Mariann Madden, Rewards Director at Willis Towers Watson

Mariann has over 20 years of experience as an advisor to external clients, organizational leaders and internal practitioners on global total rewards and organizational development matters. Prior to joining Willis Towers Watson in 2014, Mariann served in organizational development, talent mangaement, and compensation consulting roles at Heitman LLC, Deloitte Consulting LLP, and Arthur Andersen LLP.

Mariann possesses a broad array of experience which includes the following:

  • Development of job leveling frameworks, titling conventions, base pay structures and pay governance
  • Management of compensation work streams for Merger & Acquisition engagements, conducting side-by-side analysis of compensation programs and drafting recommendations for integration of the compensation programs and practices for the companies involved in the transaction
  • Development, implementation and management of performance management programs
  • Development and integration of functional job competencies into talent acquisition, compensation, and performance management processes
  • Design and facilitation of manager effectiveness training programs
  • Development of international HR programs and processes

In addition to her consulting role, Mariann is a member of the North American job leveling and job analysis teams, which focus on job and pay equity evaluations

Mariann received a B.A. in Accounting from St. Ambrose University. She is a member of WorldatWork and serves as a Director on the Chicago Compensation Association Board.


Lesli Jennings, Senior Director, Talent Management at Willis Towers Watson

Lesli Jennings is a Senior Director in Willis Towers Watson’s Talent Management & Organizational Alignment practice in Chicago. She leads client engagements to create and deliver solutions to attract, engage, develop and reward talent. Her primary goal is to provide innovative – yet tangible – solutions aligned to business strategy that drive organizational, cultural and business success. Lesli brings 18 years of experience across talent and rewards within both consulting and industry. Her areas of expertise include Broad-based compensation and rewards, business transformation, career development and pathing, leadership development, manager capability, performance management, including rating-less approaches, succession planning, talent management and talent strategy, and work and job architecture. Before recently returning to Willis Towers Watson, Lesli served as Director of Leadership & Development for Baxter Healthcare Corporation where she led the global Leadership & Development Center of Expertise. In addition, she led talent management and cultural transformation for Baxter’s global manufacturing organization. Prior to her time at Baxter, Lesli served as Assistant Vice President of Talent & Rewards for the University of Chicago, overseeing talent acquisition, leadership and professional development, talent and performance management, executive succession planning, and executive and broad-based compensation. Before she joined the University of Chicago, Lesli served as a Senior Consultant with Towers Watson’s Rewards, Talent & Communications practice in Chicago, where she focused on broad-based rewards, career pathing and career development, global job leveling and architecture, performance management, and talent strategy and talent management program design.


Lesli holds a B.S. from Northern Illinois University and she earned an M.B.A. from the J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She resides in Chicago with her husband and three children. She is actively involved in her local community and local non-profit organizations, including Cara which helps people affected by poverty to obtain quality jobs that help rebuild hope and provide opportunity.




This program is pending approval for 1.5 credit hours towards PHR/SPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) as well as 1.5 professional development credits (PDC's) toward SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification.
