The cover of the Summer, 2015 issue of Harvard Business Review (HBR) stated that “It’s Time To Blow Up HR And Build Something New.”  In three thought provoking articles, suggestions for ways for HR to re-invent itself and add greater business value are provided.  Among the key ideas are better aligning with the CFO and CEO to maximize impact, driving the talent agenda based on business imperatives, focusing on problems, not trendy solutions, and cutting loose programs that lack impact. At this HRMAC event, our panel of HR and other business leaders will discuss ideas in the HBR issue that merit adoption and share what they and their senior leaders are doing to innovate and align HR to maximize business impact.

Jade White, Managing Director for North America East at RBL, a
 company cofounded by thought leader Dave Ulrich.  Jade has over 20 years in the HR and Leadership Development fields. He is a co-author of Global HR Competencies: Mastering Competitive Value from the Outside-In and co-developer of the IMPACT HR Business Partnering Skills framework, assessment and workshop.  Jade has held leadership roles at Mars, Allianz, Capital One and Cendant with a deep focus in Learning & Development, Talent Management, OD, Strategic HR and Business Partnering.  

Andrea Barry, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Breakthru Beverage Group, formerly Wirtz Beverage Group.  She is a skilled leader and HR professional with nearly 30 years’ experience in the field. Drawing on her expertise, Andrea oversees and leads all Human Resources initiatives for Wirtz Beverage Group, one of the nation’s leading alcohol beverage distributors. In that role, Andrea works closely with senior management and focuses on talent development programs, performance management and succession planning, among other HR functions and employee-facing initiatives.

Andrea’s career prior to joining the Wirtz Beverage team includes a strong track record of establishing employee advancement programs that contributed significantly to corporate performance and growth. Her tenure includes time with Borg-Warner, Kellogg Company and Culligan International, where she served as the SVP & Chief Human Resources Officer guiding the company and its employees through extensive structural changes and business transitions. Andrea was appointed to the Human Resources Management Association of Chicago, Board of Directors in 2014.

Terrance Collins, Chief Administrative Officer,  FDH Velocitel                                                  
Terrance joined FDH Velocitel in December 2014 and is responsible for the company’s Human Resources, Environmental Health & Safety and IT functions.  FDH Velocitel is a professional services company providing innovative solutions & services in the wireless telecommunication and broader infrastructure industries.  The company is privately held by Willis Stein and Partners, a venture capital & private equity firm.

Prior to FDH Velocitel, Terrance served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources and executive officer for Zebra Technologies Corporation.  Zebra Technologies, headquartered in Lincolnshire, Illinois, is a publicly traded global leader in products and services that provide visibility into organizations' assets, people and transactions.  
Prior to joining Zebra, Mr. Collins served as the Vice President of Human Resources for the Health & Science Technologies Segment at IDEX Corporation, a publicly traded diversified industrial manufacturer headquartered in Lake Forest, Illinois. During his tenure at the company, he also served as the Vice President of Human Resources responsible for the Fluid & Metering Technologies Segment and Emerging Markets. Terrance previously served as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources for AmSan LLC in Deerfield, Ill., and in several HR leadership positions of increasing responsibility for U.S. Foodservice, Inc.

Mr. Collins holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Human Resources and Marketing from Towson University in Towson, Md. He attended the Modern Chief Human Resources Executive Program at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations. He has completed SHRM's PHR and SPHR professional certifications.  He has also served as a past chair of the International Interest Group and is a current member of the board of directors for the Human Resource Management Association of Chicago (HRMAC).

Tom Simon, Senior Vice President. Talent Management, US Foods.  His responsibilities include Company-wide Learning, Sales Training, Leadership Development, Performance Management, Cultural Transformation, Succession Planning and Change Management.  Most recently Tom was asked to play a key role in the integration of talent and culture for the proposed acquisition of US Foods by their largest competitor, Sysco Foods in Houston Texas.  After the merger was blocked by federal regulators, Tom participated in the development and implementation of a new long-range plan to move the company forward.  

Prior to US Foods, Tom held roles of increasing responsibilities as Chief Talent Officer for CNA Financial, Director of Global Talent Management at Hewlett Packard, Director of Talent and Org Effectiveness for Baxter Healthcare and numerous roles during his 20+ years with Motorola.  

Tom's completed a fellowship program in Business Transformation at the Wharton School of Business and is a graduate of Northern Illinois University where he obtained his MBA and undergraduate degree in computer science.

Judy Whitcomb, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Senior VP of Human Resources, Learning and Organizational Development, Vi.  She oversees Vi's human resources functions, including employee relations, compensation and benefits, learning and organizational development, recruitment, and payroll. She came to Vi with more than 20 years of experience in a variety of HR leadership roles, including a 19-year career at United Airlines. She has previously held leadership roles in sales, marketing, finance and operations in the financial services and employee benefit services industries. Judy is SPHR and SPHR-SCP certified and earned her undergraduate degree from DePaul University and MBA from Roosevelt University. She is a frequent guest speaker at professional conferences as well as the author of a number of articles on employee development, organizational effectiveness and employee engagement. She also serves on the Service Board for Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago. 

Since joining Vi and building a ground-up learning and development function, Vi has been recognized with numerous best places to work and training awards including Chief Learning Officer Magazine’s LearningElite designation and Editor’s Choice Award for “Leadership Commitment,” Training Magazine’s Top 125 award and ELearning Magazine’s Top 100 award.
